About Nonnie's Place
By examining the individual needs of the women in the Lyon County, Kentucky area, we seek to provide education, help with finding available resources, and offer positive support to women and their families.
Nonnie’s Place is a place where women can come on an even playing field and help each other. It is an atmosphere of courtesy, love and respect.
What's Happening at Nonnie's Place?
In September of 2017 we opened our doors to those who need the services we provide. Within a very short time our facility was full. We have remained at full capacity since then. The stories of each of the women that come to our facility are often heart wrenching, but Nonnie's Place has helped to transform the lives with which we have been entrusted. There are already several success stories of women who now have their own home or apartment, are working, and are able to live with purpose. The donations we have received from you the public, the church, our friends, and families have been a very big part of these success stories. Without your help our doors would not be open. Please consider what you might be able to do to participate in this meaningful ministry.
How did this get started?
In 2012, women from Eddyville, Kentucky began connecting with each other. Women going through hard times and women who have been through hard times before began connecting through a monthly group called Women Helping Women. They quickly saw that the area needed a safe place for women and their families to grow.
Nonnie’s Place seeks to support women who are raising children under difficult circumstances. We are guided by Jesus, who teaches that every person is a child of God and deserves to be treated with courtesy, love, and respect.
Why is there a need?
Eddyville, Kentucky is in the heartland of America. Some of the finest women in the country come from this area, but some of the hardest circumstances exist here as well. When women fall on hard times – through the loss of their spouse or a job – they can often find themselves the sole provider for their entire family. Without help, these women can end up without a home and without anyone to turn to. With the right resources; however, these women can get the leg- up that they need to give their children the opportunity to excel in education and they themselves to have a successful career.
Who is Nonnie?
Lois “Nonnie” Smith was born in 1911 and went to be with the Lord in 2008.
Nonnie was the most caring person that many of us have every known. Every person meant something to her, regardless of where they came from or where they were going. Because they were a child of God, they were worth loving.
